Read your refusal letter first
Schengen refusals use a standard form with the reasons ticked. The most common ones for Indian applicants are:
- The purpose and conditions of the stay were not justified
- Not enough proof of funds for the trip and the return
- Doubt about your intention to leave before the visa expires
- Travel medical insurance was missing or not valid
- Information or documents were not reliable
Appeal or reapply?
You can usually appeal the decision within a deadline mentioned in the letter, or simply submit a fresh application with a stronger file. Appeals can take a long time and only make sense when the embassy clearly made a mistake. In most cases, a well-prepared new application is faster.
How to fix the most common problems
- Purpose unclear → a detailed cover letter, day-by-day itinerary, and confirmed hotel bookings for every night
- Funds not sufficient → 6 months of steady bank statements, ITR, salary slips, and an explanation for any large deposits
- Return doubted → employer leave letter, business proof, property, family responsibilities in India
- Insurance issue → travel insurance with the required coverage for the whole Schengen area and the full trip
- Documents doubted → only genuine, consistent documents; never submit anything you cannot prove
Will a refusal affect future visas?
Refusals are recorded, and you must declare them honestly in future applications. A single refusal followed by a strong, honest reapplication is common and often succeeds. Hiding a refusal is far more damaging than the refusal itself.
Frequently asked questions
How soon can I reapply after a Schengen refusal?
There is usually no fixed waiting period. Reapply when you have fixed the reasons in the refusal letter — not with the same documents.
Should I apply to a different Schengen country after a refusal?
No. You must apply to the country that is your main destination. Changing countries only to avoid the previous embassy can raise further doubts.
Do you help with Schengen reapplications?
Yes. We review your refusal letter in the free consultation and rebuild the file. If we filed your original application, we reapply free of cost.
